MANILA, Philippines — Even before a Filipina whose death sentence was commuted to life in Indonesia could come home, her sister, a worker in Saudi Arabia, will get here firstr after complaining of alleged abuse from her employer.

The unidentified sister of Mary Jane Veloso, whom Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac described as “distressed,” would be home on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the Overseas Labor Market Forum in Mandaluyong City on Thursday, Cacdac said they were also looking into the complaint of Veloso’s sister.

Veloso herself is expected to be home soon although no date has been set for her arrival in the country where she is expected to serve her sentence as part of an agreement between the Philippines and Indonesia.

Veloso was meted the death sentence in Indonesia for drug trafficking in 2010. She was granted a reprieve on the intervention of the Philippines under the administration of the late president Benign Aquino III.
