MANILA, Philippines — The UP Fighting Maroons repeated over the UST Growling Tigers, 83-73, for a rebound win in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday.
UP overwhelmed UST with an 18-5 run capped by a pair of free throws by the returning JD Cagulangan, turning a 59-62 end-of-third-frame deficit into a 77-67 advantage with 4:09.2 left.
The Fighting Maroons did just enough to keep the Growling Tigers at bay to take the win and rise to 7-1, second behind the defending champs De La Salle Green Archers to whom they lost last Sunday.
UST dropped to 4-4, sitting in fourth place in the standings.
