MANILA, Philippines — After a thorough investigation, the UAAP found no conclusive evidence that could prove the allegations that UP player Reyland Torres used profane language against De La Salle coach Topex Robinson who spat as retaliation on the former in the Fighting Maroons-Green Archers game on October 6.

“Allegations that Mr. Torres used profane language and that Coach Robinson spat at Mr. Torres could not be conclusively proven based on testimonies and available evidence during the investigation,” wrote the UAAP in a statement on Saturday.

Still, the UAAP issued a stern warning on Torres and Robinson for their unsportsmanlike conduct in the third quarter of the contest which La Salle won, 68-56, at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The UAAP found that Torres passed on Robinson in very close proximity and the latter responded with language unbecoming of a coach.

“The investigation has revealed that both individuals displayed behaviors that do not reflect the values of sportsmanship upheld by the UAAP and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA),” wrote the UAAP, who said that future violations of tournament guidelines will result in stricter penalties.

“Specifically, it was found that Mr. Torres passed in very close proximity to Coach Robinson twice. Coach Robinson, in turn, responded with language unbecoming of a coach.”

The UAAP closed:

“The UAAP emphasizes that it does not condone any form of unsportsmanlike behavior, as such actions are contrary to the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie, as well as the ideals of fair play that the league intends to develop and instill through amateur sports.”
