MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that it would likely raise Signal No. 1 in some areas in Cagayan Valley and the northeastern portion of Bicol Region either Sunday night or Monday due to Tropical Storm Leon.
It said the highest wind signal which may be hoisted would be Signal No. 2.
Estimated some 1,075 kilometers east of Central Luzon, the tropical storm was moving westward at 30 kilometers per hour (kph) over the Philippine Sea.
It had maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, Pagasa said in its 11 a.m. bulletin.
Leon was expected to gradually intensify in the next 24 hours and may reach severe tropical storm category on Monday and typhoon category on Tuesday, Pagasa said.
