(UPDATE) DE La Salle University’s Kevin Quiambao bagged his second straight Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

The top individual plum for the season was officially given to Quiambao on Wednesday afternoon, moments before his Green Archers face the UP Fighting Maroons in Game 2 of the Finals at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Quiambao and the rest of the defending champs were looking to extend the series to a decider after losing Game 1.

Quiambao averaged 81.35 statistical points (SPs) built on averages of 16.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists in the eliminations.

Completing the Mythical Team are La Salle’s Mike Phillips (74.92), University of the Philippines’ (UP) JD Cagulangan (69.16), Far Easter University’s (FEU) Mo Konateh (68.64) and Nic Cabañero (61.0).

FEU’s Veejay Pre clinched the Rookie of the Year award with 50.85 points.

In the women’s side, Ateneo’s Kacey Dela Rosa likewise bagged her second straight MVP award.

Dela Rosa garnered 96.28 SPs on her 22.07 points, 16.0 rebounds and 2.28 blocks per game in the eliminations.

The 6-foot junior from Ateneo de Manila University etched her name in history as the fifth women’s basketball player in the league to achieve back-to-back MVP honors.

Dela Rosa is the second Blue Eagle after Cassy Tioseco in Seasons 69 and 70 to win consecutive women’s MVP honors.

Also in the elite group are Analyn Almazan of Adamson (Seasons 72 and 73), Afril Bernardino of National University (NU) (Seasons 77 to 79) and Grace Irebu of University of Santo Tomas (UST) (Seasons 81 and 82).

UST’s Kent Pastrana (79.85), UP’s Louna Ozar (67.57), Ateneo’s Sarah Makanjuola (65.78) and NU’s Angel Surada (62.0) completed the Mythical Team.

NU’s Cielo Pagdulagan claimed the Rookie of the Year award with her 56.57 SPs.
