MANILA, Philippines — World Cup finalist Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh kicked off strong at the SEA Age Group Championships, securing a silver medal in the opening day at the Assumption University Suvarnabhumi Campus swimming pool in Bangkok, Thailand.

Mojdeh narrowly missed the gold medal in the girls’ 16-18 100m butterfly event, finishing with a time of 1:03.40, just behind Thailand’s Thitiphon Kertsriphan (1:03.39).

“We were in distant lanes, so I couldn’t see her. I couldn’t gauge her pace. but I have remaining events to bounce back. I’ll make up for it in my next events,” said Mojdeh.

Mojdeh, a Behrouz Elite Swimming Team standout, aims to bounce back in three more events — 400m Individual Medley, 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly.

Besides Mojdeh’s silver, the national junior swimming team also secured one silver and one bronze in the opening day of the three-day meet.

Veteran international campaigner Jamesray Ajido submitted 24.63 seconds to secure the silver medal in the boys’ 14-15 50m freestyle event.

Jirapat Chayangsu of host Thailand topped the event in 24.11 seconds while another Thai in Ktanont Petcharatn earned the bronze with a time of 24.79 seconds.

Ivo Nikolai Enot chipped in one bronze in the boys’ 16-18 100m backstroke.

He registered 58.05 seconds. Indonesian Jason Donovan Yusuf posted a new SEA Age Group record (56.52) to win the gold while Truong Vinh Trinh of Vietnam took the silver in 57.83 seconds. TMT
