MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced road closures near and around the Quirino Grandstand where the Iglesia Ni Cristo’s (INC) will hold its national rally for peace on Monday.

In the same light, government work and classes in all levels in Manila and Pasay City on Monday due to the event.

A briefing led by MMDA Chairperson Don Artes and MMDA Traffic Operations Officer Manny Miro said there will be a closure of roads around Rizal Park area.

Among them include: Katigbak Drive; South Drive; Roxas Boulevard (from U.N. Avenue to P. Burgos); TM Kalaw; Bonifacio Drive (from P. Burgos to Anda Circle); and Maria Orosa.

Likewise, Miro advised motorists to use alternate routes like U.N. Avenue and Quirino Avenue.

The MMDA also asked trucks to use the Quirino Ave-Lacson-Capulong-R10 route during the road closure.

Miro said that various roads in the vicinity will also be utilized as designated parking areas for the event.

According to the MMDA they are expecting up to 1 million attendees in the event on January 13.

Artes said they will allow street parking, but only one lane can be used.

“Kung three lanes po ‘yang kalsada or two lanes, dapat isa lang ang sasakupin. Hindi po pwedeng sakupin ang buong kalsada na wala nang ibang makakadaan. Anyone na magba-violate po…ay iisyuhan po natin ng ticket. Kung walang driver, ipapa-tow dahil hindi pwedeng barahan ‘yung kalsada,” he said.

Some 1,300 MMDA personnel are expected to be deployed for the event.

On December 4, the religious group made an announcement they will hold a rally that supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s stance against impeachment moves.

Marcos Jr. had earlier declared that he is not supportive of any impeachment plan against Vice President Sara Duterte.

Presently, Duterte is currently facing three impeachment complaints.
