PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will lead the country’s annual commemoration of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on its 128th anniversary at the Rizal National Monument, Manila on Dec. 30, 2024.
The commemorative program includes arrival honors to be rendered by the Armed Forces of the Philippines followed by the raising of the Philippine flag.
The President will offer a wreath at the Rizal Monument with National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Chairman Regalado Trota Jose Jr. and AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr.
The event coincides with simultaneous programs at the Rizal Shrines in Calamba City, Laguna and Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
With the theme “Rizal: Sa Bagong Pilipinas, Buhay at Aral Aming Nilalandas” the annual remembrance of Rizal’s martyrdom serves as an opportunity for Filipinos to reflect on values that his heroism exemplifies for our people and how these may serve as a foundation for our future.
After the commemorative program, NHCP will be opening the exhibit “Remembering Rizal in Artworks and Monuments” at the main lobby and second floor of the NHCP Main Building, TM Kalaw Street, Ermita, Manila.
It features artworks from the NHCP collection that immortalize Rizal’s life, ideals and sacrifices.
Running for a month, the exhibit offers a deeper understanding of his enduring influence on the nation.
NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
