MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has designated three members of his Cabinet as caretakers of the government when he leaves for his working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, and Agrarian Reform Secretary Conrado Estrella III will form the “caretaker committee,” Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cesar Chavez said.
The chief executive is scheduled to leave for Abu Dhabi tonight.
He will meet with the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Tuesday. The two leaders are expected to have dialogues to further deepen ties.
In the past, Marcos named Vice President Sara Duterte as caretaker when he left for a foreign trip.
Their relationship, however, has become strained since Duterte resigned as secretary of the Department of Education last June. It worsened following the vice president’s tirades against the President and first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos over the weekend.
