MANILA, Philippines — De La Salle University (DLSU) edged University of Santo Tomas (UST), 26-28, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25, 15-13, to advance to the finals of the 2024 Shakey’s Super League on Wednesday at Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Shevana Laput (19 points) and Angel Canino (17 points) led DLSU, while UST’s Angge Poyos topped all scorers with 22 points.

UST dominated early, leading 12-4 in the first set, but DLSU closed the gap. However, costly errors handed UST the set, 28-26. DLSU convincingly won the next two sets, with Amie Provido contributing 12 points.

UST regained momentum in the fourth set, equalizing the game at 2-2, leading by as much as 9 points. In the deciding set, a challenged touch block call proved crucial, giving DLSU a 13-11 lead. Angel Canino’s kill spike sealed the 15-13 win.

“We told the players to want to win and prove to themselves they can do it,” said DLSU head coach Noel Orcullo.

The Lady Spikers advance to the best-of-three finals against the winner between National University and Far Eastern University.

The NU-FEU game is scheduled on Sunday.
