MANILA, Philippines — Defending champs De La Salle Green Archers repeated on the UP Fighting Maroons, 77-66, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday to secure a no. 1 finish in the UAAP Season 87 elimination round.
With still one game left on its schedule, La Salle clinched the top spot with a 12-1 slate and also stretched its winning run to nine games.
Reigning MVP Kevin Quiambao poured 15 points, five rebounds, and three assists to lead the Green Archers who beat the Maroons for the fourth straight time dating back to the last two games of the Finals last year.
JD Cagulangan racked up 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals to pace the Fighting Maroons, who dropped to 9-3.
UP, however, is still assured of a top two finish and will have the other twice-to-beat incentive Final Four bonus.
