MANILA, Philippines — Gilas Pilipinas star Kai Sotto unleashed back-to-back solid performances for the Koshigaya Alphas in Japan’s B.League 2024-2025 season over the weekend at the Koshigaya City General Gymnasium.
Facing the Kyoto Hannaryz for two straight games, Sotto, 22, racked up 20 points, four rebounds, three assists, and one block on Saturday.
The 7-foot-3 center then pumped 18 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday to get himself an average of 19.0 points and 7.0 rebounds the past weekend.
Despite his production, Sotto and the Alphas fell to Hannaryz twice, 84-92 on Saturday and 80-96 on Sunday.
Koshigaya dropped to its sixth straight loss for a 6-18 record in the Eastern Conference.
“In terms of content, it was the same as yesterday. We got a little excited at the start of the game, but in the end, we lost momentum because of our turnovers and other things,” said Alphas head coach Ryuzo Anzai.
“Kyoto’s substitutions and the high level of each individual’s skills were really great, and I felt that there was a big difference in experience there this weekend.”
Averaging a healthy 28 minutes per game, Sotto is logging 14.3 points, 9.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 blocks for the Alphas this year.
Sotto and the Alphas will next face the Shiga Lakes on December 29 and December 30.
