MANILA, Philippines — Members of the House of Representatives gave their “full support” to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., calling him a “symbol of the nation’s sovereignty.”

They also vowed to use their mandate to “thwart any attempts to destabilize the government” and undermine the President’s leadership.

The expression of support is contained in a manifesto that was presented by House members, led by Speaker Martin Romualdez, during a Christmas Fellowship with Marcos on Wednesday night in Malacañang.

It also comes after Vice President Sara Duterte made remarks about having the President, first lady Liza Marcos, and Speaker Romualdez “killed” if anything would happen to her.

“Guided by the Philippine Constitution as the supreme law of the land, we, the Members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of the Philippines, reaffirm our unwavering commitment to defend the democratic institutions and sovereignty of our nation,” said the manifesto.

It highlighted their unity in safeguarding democratic principles and national stability by declaring their loyalty to Marcos.

“Recognizing the significant challenges facing the President and his administration, we unite in declaring our firm support for the President and his vision for a Bagong Pilipinas,” it added.

During the gathering, the House members also presented Marcos with a copy of Resolution 277, which expressed “the unwavering and unqualified support and solidarity of the House of Representatives” to the leadership of Marcos and Romualdez
