SEN. Bong Go, in partnership with the local government of Hagonoy in Bulacan, supported various impoverished residents, including typhoon victims, on October 9.

The outreach underscores the senator’s unwavering commitment to uplifting affected sectors toward recovery.

“I did not miss this day to help you. Recently, many people have thanked me because our programs have helped them. But honestly, I should be the one to thank you for the opportunity you gave me to serve you,” Go said in Filipino.

“What I can offer to you is my diligence in working because it is my habit to serve to the best of my ability,” he added.

A total of 1,500 beneficiaries received grocery packs, meals, vitamins, shirts, masks, fans, basketballs and volleyballs from the senator. Additionally, select recipients received shoes, bicycles, mobile phones and watches.

Meanwhile, through the collective efforts of Go and Mayor Baby Manlapaz, each qualified beneficiary received financial support from the government.

The payout of P2,000 each beneficiary and the distribution of grocery packs was led by Go himself. He is assisted by Bulacan Vice Gov. Alex Castro and Mayor Manlapaz at the Hagonoy Evacuation Center.

The mayor, on the other hand, thanked the senator’s initiative, saying the assistance provided would help the beneficiaries’ prompt recovery.

In line with his advocacy for disaster resilience, Go has pushed for his filed Senate Bill (SB) 188, known as the Department of Disaster Resilience (DDR) Act. This proposed measure seeks to establish a dedicated agency that creates adaptive and resilient communities.

Go said that if enacted into law, the DDR should prioritize three key areas such as disaster risk reduction, disaster preparedness and response, and recovery with improved building practices.

He also highlighted SB 2451, the Ligtas Pinoy Centers bill, as its co-sponsor and one of its authors. This bill seeks to establish permanent, fully equipped evacuation centers nationwide.
