(UPDATE) THE Philippine Embassy in Kuwait on Saturday said it was deeply saddened by the reported involvement of a Filipino domestic worker in the death of a Kuwaiti child in her employer’s household.

Initial reports showed that the unidentified Filipina maid allegedly put the toddler inside a washing machine and turned it on in the family’s home in Sabah Al-Salem because he was “annoying” her.

The embassy said it provided assistance to the unidentified detained Filipino domestic worker, “within the framework of Kuwaiti law and in keeping with the embassy’s mandate.”

“The embassy is cooperating with Kuwaiti authorities investigating the incident,” it said in a statement posted on Facebook on Friday.

“This isolated incident does not reflect the character of Filipinos and the Filipino community in Kuwait, who are recognized for their hard work, reliability, and positive contribution to society,” the embassy said.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences and prayers to the bereaved family during this difficult time,” it added.

The Filipino household worker allegedly confessed to killing the young child.

She committed the crime out of frustration. “He was disturbing me, so I put him in the washing machine,” she said in her supposed confession.

The parents apparently heard their child’s cries and rushed to rescue him, but they were too late. The child was immediately taken to Jaber Hospital where he later died due to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the embassy, in partnership with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), last Nov. 21 conducted a Gender and Conflict Awareness Seminar for embassy personnel in support of the 18-day campaign to end violence against women, promoting gender sensitivity and understanding the impact of conflicts.
