MANILA, Philippines — Far Eastern University (FEU) pumped life to its Final Four bid after getting back at University of the East, 59-51, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament at the UST Quadricentennial Pavilion on Sunday.
The Tamaraws charged to a 23-9 start and doused every Warriors’ comeback attempt to also bounce back from their loss to the UST Growling Tigers last timeout.
Veejay Pre banged 20 points and eight rebounds to lead FEU, which rose to 4-7 and tied Adamson from fifth to sixth places.
Suffering its second straight loss, UE dropped to 6-5 but stayed in third place of the standings.
Meanwhile, with the Warriors’ fifth loss, defending champ De La Salle clinched one of the two twice-to-beat incentive semifinals advantages as the Green Archers are assured of a top two finish.
Sporting a 10-1 slate, La Salle could only drop as low as 10-4 which is still good enough for it to finish in top two due to UE’s defeat.
