MANILA, Philippines — Former Chery Tiggo spiker EJ Laure said she is nearing a full recovery from her injury as she gears up with her new team Nxled in the 2024-2025 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
“I’m starting to do ball drills now,” Laure told the media on Tuesday at the PhilSports Arena, where her new team Chameleons face her old one in the Crossovers as of posting time.
“When I was with Chery, I was in the early stages of my recovery but now I’m doing ball drills already,” added Laure, who started practicing with Nxled yesterday.
As a veteran, Laure, who last saw action in last season’s All-Filipino Conference, said she seeks to bring leadership to the Chameleons through example.
“I’m really looking to bring leadership. I’m not really the vocal type because I wanted to lead by example,” said the 27-year-old, who had to find a new team after her contract with Chery Tiggo expired.
Thus far, Laure, who said she joined Nxled to move out of her comfort zone, is liking what she’s seeing from her new team.
“From what I saw in training yesterday, they’re willing to do everything. I can see that they really want to win.”
Laure shared that the Chameleons aren’t rushing her to get on the court and not piling up the pressure on her to deliver right away.
“Coach Ettore [Guidetti] is good and he’s really patient with me since I’m still recovering,” said Laure.
“They [the team] aren’t pressuring me knowing I’ve been away from volleyball action for a long time.”
