MANILA, Philippines — EduAKSyon, a party-list pushing for educational reforms in the country, filed its certificate of candidacy (CoC) on Sunday.
EduAKSyon Secretary General Domingo Brum Jr. was accompanied by the party-list’s 1st nominee Michael Alexander Ang, 2nd nominee lawyer Kristjan Vincent Gargantiel and 3rd nominee Dr. Aldrin Darilag when he filed the group’s CoC at the Manila Hotel.
EduAKSyon Party-list is advocating for the reduction of the four-year college curriculum to three years to streamline education and make it more accessible, Gargantiel said.
He said the three years will be broken down to two years of classroom learning and one year on-the-job training.
Gargantiel said this is achievable by not covering general education subjects which were already taken up in high school such as Filipino and Natural Science.
“We should be focusing on core subjects specifically made for the specific course,” he added.
Gargantiel said this initiative is part of the party-list’s broader push for education reforms, which they believe will address challenges in the higher education system.
He said the current four-year education model in the Philippines is outdated and no longer reflects the realities of a rapidly changing job market.
“By condensing the curriculum, the party-list hopes to align education more closely with the needs of modern industries, where specialized skills are increasingly valued over general knowledge,” he said.
