Alex Eala, a 19-year-old wildcard from the Philippines, bowed to Jessica Pegula, 7-6, 5-7, 6-3, in the semifinal round of the Miami Open on Friday.
The loss ended Eala’s impressive run in the WTA tournament where she stunned world No. 2 Iga Swiatek, four-time French Open champion, in the quarterfinal round.
Pegula will advance to the finals opposite world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.
