THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the government’s infrastructure projects in Mindanao would improve connectivity and economic sustainability in the area.

Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan said on Wednesday that the First Mindanao Infrastructure Summit has brought together national and local leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to chart the course of Mindanao’s infrastructure development, as well as attract investors.

Public Works and Highways Senior Undersecretary Emil Sadain, who represented Bonoan at the summit, led the presentation of flagship infrastructure initiatives that include Growth Corridors in Mindanao Road Sector Project in Western Mindanao, Panguil Bay Bridge Project, Flood Risk Management Project for Cagayan de Oro (CdO) River, Central Mindanao High Standard Highway Construction Project CdO-Malaybalay Section in Northern Mindanao, Davao City Bypass Construction Project, Samal Island-Davao City Connector Bridge, Davao River Bridge, Davao City Flood Control and Drainage Project in Davao Region, Road Network Development Project in Conflict Affected Areas in Mindanao, Ambal Simuay River and Rio Grande de Mindanao River Flood Control Projects in Central Mindanao, Agusan Daang Maharlika Road Improvement Project in Caraga Region, and Emergency Assistance for Reconstruction and Recovery of Marawi in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Public Works and Highways Planning Service Director Alex Bote said coordinated planning and program alignment were crucial to ensure the effective delivery of projects in the region.

A major highlight of the summit was the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the Department of Public Works and Highways and Mindanao Development Authority to strengthen collaboration in infrastructure development across Mindanao.
