These are memorable words I have learned to live with all these years from an old wise friend, the late Dading Ledesma, who I met years ago when I was just growing up in my high school years in Lasalle Bacolod and also became my colleague in the Negros Press Club.

An elderly respected sugar farmer and a very distinguished alumni member of the La Sallian education, who also loved to write as a journalist during his spare time. Plus a lover for sports.

These same words I now advise the hot headed coaching and staff members of the University of the Philippines (UP) basketball team. There are limits to gimmickry in the UAAP.

You’re cursing the Archers coach who happens to have been a former coach of a PBA team for some years, not just any ordinary barangay or pogo based town. And to accuse a coach of spitting at a player is not only absurd. It’s stupid.

And which player? An ordinary player that has not even made ten points for his team in the UAAP? Oh c’Mon. Enough is enough. Lose with dignity Guys.

Don’t forget you are representing Universidad de la Pilipinas. Shame on you.

And please lose with dignity. Stop the gimmickry. Who ever thought of this idea to cause trouble should be booted out of the UP team. You don’t belong there.

I’m sure the coaching son of the famous Lily Monteverde will not also kowtow to this obvious and stupid gimmick of one of the members in the team, coaching or playing.

Play with dignity guys. Winning at all costs is for those who are uneducated and morons.

I’m sure the finals for this years UAAP mens basketball will be DLSU vs UP again so let’s continue the tradition of “fair play” which I’m sure is also taught in the UP campus.

Just like last year, it will be another record breaker in Smart Araneta or MOA. May the best and not the dirtiest team win.
