MANILA, Philippines — Petro Gazz’s lead scorer Brooke Van Sickle showed appreciation to teammate Myla Pablo, who is now getting more playing time in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference.

Van Sickle, the conference reigning Most Valuable Player (MVP), scored 19 points on 13 attacks and six blocks to hand Cignal its first loss, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 via sweep.

Taking the Player of the Game plum, Van Sickle acknowledged Pablo’s killer instincts and shared how amazed she was.

“I thought Myla did fantastic. I think every ball she touched was a kill. I’m just so proud of the team and it’s good to win against Cignal. They’re a very, very good team. They’re very scrappy and they know how to win. I’m very proud leaving on a high note before Christmas,” Van Sickle said. Pablo chipped in 15 points to help Petro Gazz end the year with a confidence-boosting victory.

The Filipino-American hitter was also familiar with the monicker “Bagyong Pablo,” and shared that now she fully understood what it meant.

“Myla’s a fantastic player. They don’t call her ‘Typhoon Pablo’ for nothing. She has all the shots, wicked line hits for sure. She’s just confident. When I see her on the court and something doesn’t happen, she’s like ‘Okay, next one, I got it.'”

“It’s really refreshing to be next to her and have someone calm, collected, and just fiery. I’m very happy to have her as a teammate.”

Pablo made a return to Petro Gazz after the disbandment of her former F2 Logistics team.

In her return with Petro Gazz, Pablo was still familiarizing with the system of Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzurabara, making her have limited minutes.

“The confidence that I have is from myself, from my teammates, and from my coaches. Whatever role they give I’ll embrace it. It is rare for me to have a chance to play, and I’ll make sure to give my best,” Pablo said.
