MANILA, Philippines — Filipino Olympic pugilist Hergie Bacyadan on Saturday clinched the gold medal at the 2024 Asian Kickboxing Championships in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In her first tournament since the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, at the final of the women’s K1 -70 kilogram division, she defeated China’s Teng Jinwei, to seal the gold.

The Paris Olympian clinched victory when it appeared that Teng backed out from the final bout.

“We just bagged the gold medal! Congrats to all of us, Pinas,” Bacyadan wrote on her Facebook page following her victory.

Earlier on Saturday, the Philippines already secured its first two gold medals from the tournament, both of them coming from Jovan Medallo in the musical form events.

Carlo Von Buminaang, Honorio Banario and Gina Araos are yet to take part in their respective finals, as of this writing.

The Philippines now has 3 gold and 10 bronze medals, following Bacyadan’s victory.
