MANILA, Philippines — Hudson Meek, the teen actor best known for his role in 2017 film “Baby Driver,” tragically passed away on Saturday in Alabama. He was 16 years old.

According to reports, the young star was taken to a hospital but succumbed to injuries sustained in an accident involving a moving vehicle. The Vestavia Hills Police Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Hudson’s family shared the heartbreaking news on his personal Instagram account, stating, “Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight. His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”

The announcement also revealed plans for a Celebration of Life service, scheduled for Dec. 28 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama. The family encouraged donations to the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship at Vestavia Hills High School in lieu of flowers.

Hudson’s acting career included prominent roles in both film and television. He gained recognition for portraying the young version of Ansel Elgort’s character in “Baby Driver” (2017). His filmography also included appearances in “MacGyver,” “The School Duet,” “Genius,” “Found,” “Legacies,” “Union,” “Momma Jenny & the Brooks Boys,” “Providence,” “Half Pint,” “90 Minutes,” “The List” and “The Santa Con.”

Several projects he worked on are set to be released in 2025.

In an obituary posted by his family via www.searcyfuneralhome.com, Hudson was a sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, where he was deeply involved in academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.

A proud member of the Vestavia Hills Rebel Football Team, Meek also participated in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Honor Choir, and Student Government Association.

“Hudson’s personality was one of a kind. He was confident, convicted in his beliefs, spontaneous, and quick-witted. He never let the facts get in the way of a funny story, and he loved friendly banter. He was a prankster, loved a good joke, and was happiest when he was making others laugh. Hudson thrived in settings that allowed him to meet and serve new people. Hudson was a vibrant and dynamic person who lived life to the fullest,” the obituary read.

Hudson was also devoted to his Christian faith. He participated in Bible studies, youth retreats, mission trips, and various church events. His family expressed their gratitude to the worship leaders and mentors who nurtured his spiritual growth.

Hudson is survived by his parents, Derek Firth Meek and Lani Wells Meek; his older brother, Tucker Firth Meek; his grandmothers, Margaret Green Meek and Faye Searcy Wells; and numerous extended family members and friends.
