MANILA, Philippines—Petro Gazz remembered what it was like to lose against Creamline and vowed to come back stronger.
Petro Gazz’s sole loss during the preliminary round of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference came from the 10-time champions via sweep, 19-25, 22-25, 16-25, on Nov. 16, 2024, at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Facing each other again, but this time in the semifinals, Petro Gazz retaliated with a 25-23, 25-22, 21-25, 25-16 win over Creamline on Saturday.
Same venue, and same uniform, Japanese head coach Koji Tsuzurabara vividly remembered the day that they lost to Creamline.
“Yes. Before, in our previous match we lost to Creamline. This same venue, this same uniform. So we are doing [everything] we need to do to win the game. Creamline is too strong,” he said with a smile as his team conquered Creamline.
Petro Gazz fans on X (formerly Twitter) also mentioned the association of the “dark uniform” that Petro Gazz wears, stating that whenever the Angels wear that type of uniform against the Cool Smashers, the result is usually a loss.
Knowing this notion, Angel Jonah Sabete shared that she just did what she could that day.
“Actually, my mindset is that just let it be. Because Creamline is a team that fights back. So, whatever it is, I am just going to slam the ball. If I did that, the result may change,” Sabete, who scored 19 points, said.
Petro Gazz looks to secure its Finals seat when it clashes against Choco Mucho on Tuesday, April 1, at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
“Yes, I said to my players before the fourth set to my players that [we are] challengers. Next game also, we will be challengers. I know what level Choco Mucho plays. I know. We also lost to them as a team,” he said.
