MANILA, Philippines — Actress-politician Girlie Javier-Ejercito, better known as Maita Sanchez, has passed away, her husband, former Laguna governor ER Ejercito confirmed on Sunday. She was 55 years old.
In a Facebook post, Ejercito revealed that Sanchez, former mayor of Pagsanjan, Laguna, died after battling endometrial cancer. She died at 12:01 a.m. on Sunday, November 3.
“My lovely and beautiful wife, our dearly beloved Mayora Girlie “Maita” Javier- Ejercito of Pagsanjan, Laguna just passed away due to endometrial cancer at 12:01 am, November 3, 2024 at St. Luke’s Medical Center, Quezon City,” Ejercito wrote.
“Heartfelt thanks for all your love and prayers,” he said.
“Mayor Maita was an outstanding multi-awarded local chief executive (2010-2019) who brought life, joy, and integrity into the significant programs and projects of Pagsanjan, which is now recognized as the tourist capital of Laguna,” Ejercito added.
Sanchez left behind six children namely Eric, Jet, Jerico, Jhulia, Diego and Gabriela.
Her wake will be held on November 3 to 9 at their ancestral home at Don Porong Ejercito 1912 Ancestral Mansion in Pagsanjan, Laguna. While details of her burial are yet to be announced, there will be a daily mass at 7 p.m.
The Ejercito family requested prayers and mass offerings for the repose of her soul.
Sanchez Maita served as the vice mayor of Pagsanjan from 2019 to 2022. She ran for mayor once in May 2022 but lost.
She previously appeared in films such as “Sa Dulo ng Baril” (1988), “Lagalag: The Eddie Fernandez Story” (1994), “Minsan Pa: Kahit Pagtingin Part 2” (1995), “Hagedorn” (1996), “Pagbabalik ng Probinsyano” (1998), “Ang Dalubhasa” (2000), and “Batas ng Lansangan” (2002). She was last seen on the big screen via “Shake, Rattle & Roll The Extreme” (2023).
