MANILA, Philippines— Four major dams in Luzon released water to prevent overflows, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Monday.

Pagasa administrator Nathaniel Servando told The Manila Times that these dams were close to reaching their spilling levels.

He said that the Ambuklao Dam in Bokod, Benguet had eight gates unlocked. As of 8 a.m. Monday, the dam’s reservoir water level (RWL) was 750.79 meters or just short of -1.21 m before reaching its normal high water level (NHWL) of 752.00 meters, its spilling level.

The Binga Dam, also in Benguet province, had six gates open while San Roque Dam in Pangasinan province opened one gate.

Meanwhile, the Magat Dam in Isabela had three gates open.

Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan, the main source of water for Metro Manila and irrigation for its adjoining provinces, measured 201.28 meters, still far from its spilling level of 210.00 m.
