FAQ Frequently Asked Questions

In every market, the demand and the available supply of the commodity usually drives up the shipping rate.

Every action within the supply network has a resultant impact. The shortage of container ships results in higher demands which increases the costs.

When it comes to international shipping there is a rule for everything. The rule of thumb for importers and exporters when paying for freight determinds the best freight payment method to use.

These are four essential freight payment methods used by the majority of importers and exporters.

Cash against goods

Most shipments types of payments is governed by a bill of exchange.  A bill of exchange is a non interest bearing written order used mainly in international trade. It binds one party to pay to another party a fixed sum of money at a predetermined future date. It’s basically a check that describes a transaction and the bill that needs to be paid.

The exporter has all control over the goods when thy’re shipped. To protect the exporter, the importer’s bank will guarantee the shipment by agreeing to pay for the goods outlined by the bill of exchange. Therefore the bank becomes liable to the exporter upon receipt of the goods.

Cash against documents

This method is similar to cash against goods but hinges on the bill of exchange.  This is common for importing payment method and is in many ways virtually identical to the CAG.  Within this freight payment method the exporter gives the importer bank control. Therefore the bank is allowed to release the shipment and associated documents only upon them receiving the payment from the importer. For example, if you ship a bulk load of coffee to a company in Asia. The Asian company pays their bank and the bank pays you.

Cash in advance

This is the simplest method of transaction. Basically the importer pre-pays for their shipment-its that simple.

Letters of credit

This is another common method. This work like a credit card.  For example, if  a company orders 30 containers of black tea from you. The importer will receive a letter of credit from their bank. You then ship 30 containers of black tea. When the importer receives the goods your bank pays you.  The letters of credit must contain the following items and documents, Product numbers, Shipping terms, All transaction information and Quality control methods
